A trap for small business owners

Submitted by Legendary on August 17, 2008 – 1:39 amNo Comment

Money as baitMost small business owners are very busy people. Sometimes too busy wouldn’t you admit? While being a hard and dedicated worker is certainly an attribute most of us admire, there’s a deadly trap hidden somewhere deep within those long days and nights of burning the midnight oil.

What is this mysterious trap? It’s the trap of getting hung up working “in” your business instead of “on” it! Have you ever had one of those days where you start working from the moment you get up to the moment it’s time to wrap it up for the day?

Ever had the feeling that nothing really got done? What happens when several of those days add up? It’s all a bunch of busy work, and very little attention is being paid to bringing in more business. Unfortunately, when this happens, your business as a whole suffers!

Today’s brief post is simply a reminder that in today’s economy, you must be jealous with your time. If too much time is wasted on “low payoff” activities, it’s easy to fall behind. Many businesses attempt to reduce spending on marketing and sales activities when the market gets rough.

This is a mistake! Sure, you want to reign in costs on activities that offer a questionable ROI… But if marketing is required in a booming market, how much more is required in a bumpy market?

Just a few thoughts for you to consider today. Make it a great week!
